My Goal: Get user’s Home Directories to synchronize using Offline Files Feature. Currently we receive this error: "Offline Files (\\Server03\home on Domain File Share (Server03)): Unable to make 'User Name' available offline on \\Server03\home. Access is denied."

According to some Microsoft tech articles, the problem is that in order to get home directory to sync we need both the Share and NTFS permission alike for the Shared Root Folder called HOME. All users must have at minimum Read Access to the Root Folder HOME (both NTFS and Share) and yet, in our environment anyway, they need Modify rights in the Share Permissions in order to have Modify rights within their home directory. The group being used is called “Authenticated Users” and includes all domain users. This group is updated automatically when new domain accounts are created.

Currently, the Share Permissions for the Root Folder HOME include the group “Authenticated Users” but the NTFS Permissions for the Root Folder HOME does NOT include this group. Our Server is running Windows Server 2003 - Standard Edition - SP2. No GPO

Our Test: When we added Authenticated Users and granted Read Access to Authenticated Users group to the NTFS permissions on the Root Folder HOME, the result was that users could then see/open other users’ Home directories. I believe this was because the restricted Read access in NTFS permissions had filtered down from the Parent (Root: HOME) and over-rode the Share permissions for that group. I think of it like this: If mom says you can’t stay out late but dad says you can then the result is that you can’t stay out late. In other words, the most restricted access is the one which takes precedence.

SOOO….How do we grant Read Access in the NTFS Permissions for the Root Folder HOME for all users without restricting the Share permissions or granting read access to all users to other users’ home directories?

I think it has something to do with inherited permissions – but I’m unclear how to resolve our issue here. GPO is not an option, so please don’t offer suggestions that require or use GPO as a solution. I’m new at all of this, so URL links to tech articles would be helpful as well. Also, if anyone there knows of the URL or tech article which discusses the Best Practices for Home Folders and NTFS Share Permissions, that would rock.

So...Help...Please...

I am configuring our DC as an Authoritative Time Server and need some help on the client synchronization end of this project...Our DC is running Windows Server 2003 and all clients are on Windows XP Pro.

Question: Does anyone know how configure multiple client systems to synchronize to an authoritative time server without using GPO?

I was thinking of something along the lines of a batch file - like a login script using this command:

NET TIME \\ServerName /SET /YES

Does anyone have other suggestions?? Links to support articles? Your help is much appreciated!

Over the summer, Harry destroyed all but one of Voldemort's Horcruxes and while Voldemort has captured Harry, he has not killed him. For Voldemort knows that, Harry is, of course, the final Horcrux and thus, must survive so that Voldemort may live. Kept under close guard by Voldemort's most trusted servants in the most secluded and secure of Hogwarts' dungeons, Harry suffers daily his own excruciating pain: that of knowing that his life is the one thing that keeps Voldemort alive.

Voldemort has taken control of all things in the Wizarding world. He controls the Ministry of Magic and he controls Hogwarts. Hogwarts has re-opened and students have returned to finish their education, mandated my Ministry Decree and under Headmistress Bellatrix Lestrange. Draco Malfoy had been "forgiven" but only at the cost of his mother, Narcissa. Lucius remains loyal, on thin-ice with Voldemort, and has taken up the post of Defense Against The Dark Arts Professor, appointed by Voldemort himself.

Minivera McGonnagal, a former Order member remains at Hogwarts; and only because she served her Master well during his absence. She is, unlike Severus Snape, the true spy for the Dark Lord.

Snape has been demoted again to Potions Master, and resents the fact that Lucius has gained enough favor with the Dark Lord to be appointed to DADA Professor. He is back to his sour self.

Voldemort distributed Magical Journals to select Ministry Officials, Death Eaters and Hogwarts Staff. Certain members of the Order have also gotten ahold of these magical journals and use privacy charmed entries to communicate.

Headmistress Bellatrix Lestrange distributed the magical journals with an ordered Decree that each student is required to write in the journal on a weekly basis. Each journal's entries can be seen by all students, Hogwart's staff and select Ministry Officials. Students may charm some entries private, but excessive private entries will be punished. However, Hogwart's students are known to be clever and will most likely find a way around such rules.

All students return to Hogwarts as ordered by the Ministry. Hermione and Ron return to Hogwarts to complete their 7th year's education and play the role of spy for the small, but remaining Order members, lead now by Kingsley Shacklebolt, who continue to recruit and strive to vanquish the Dark Lord once and for all.

PLOT NOTE: Just after Harry's capture, he was able to relay messages to Ron, Hermione and Draco: that he himself is the final Horcrux and if things were ever going to change, they knew what needed to be done.
